The Challenge

Operators and service technicians often work in demanding conditions, such as underground mines, where connectivity is limited, and quick decision-making is crucial. SAM needed to provide real-time data and guidance in a way that was intuitive and accessible, even in low-light and offline scenarios.

Working within an agile framework, I collaborated closely with developers and stakeholders throughout the whole design process - from research to detailed design. This ensured that design decisions were feasible, aligned with technical constraints, and smoothly handed off for development. Key initiatives included:

The enhancements made to SAM's mobile experience significantly improved accessibility and usability for operators and service technicians. Offline support, notifications, and improved filtering contributed to more efficient workflows and better-informed decision-making in challenging environments. In addition, the refreshed look and feel, supported by the updated design system and rebrand, gave the app a more premium and cohesive appearance, enhancing user confidence and satisfaction.
